reThink Green’s annual Sustainability Awards highlights achievements in community carbon reduction, sustainability, and leadership in the area of environmentalism. Thank you to everyone who nominated individuals and businesses making a difference this year!

This year’s awards will be held online, Thursday April 20th from 2:00 to 3:30 pm on Eventbrite via Zoom. The community is invited to join us in celebrating our amazing winners!

Award Descriptions

Environmental Champion

A person that has gone above and beyond professionally what is expected of them in sustainability. This person has made a positive impact in Northern Ontario abroad or in their community with the resources they have at their disposal to benefit the community through sustainable practices. 

Sustainability in COVID

Sustainability during COVID-19 is difficult. We’re celebrating a business or organization keeping the planet in mind. Highlighting their fantastic sustainability and resilience during the covid-19 global health crisis.

Educator of the Year

The Environmental Educator Award is given to an educator who shows initiative in creating opportunities for environmental education and who centers the concept of sustainability in their teaching and in their actions. They are a champion for environmentalism and sustainability and have made a lasting impact on their students and community.

Youth Leadership

A person under 25 who has shown leadership with environmental sustainability. They are committed to their cause by putting their time and energy into achieving this goal through projects, community engagement, and innovation. Their success has benefitted their community and inspires others to up the cause.

Erica Lagios Memorial Award in Food Sustainability

This award is given to a business, not for profit, or organization that has made a tremendous impact in the areas of food security, capacity, or availability where local agriculture is concerned. This can range from reducing the steps it takes for food to reach from farm to table, or by creating new systems for food to be distributed to members of the community who otherwise would not have access to local, fresh food stuffs.

Member of the Year

Green Economy North celebrates a member who showed exceptional effort, advocacy, and dedication in reducing their carbon emissions through scope 1 or scope 2 emissions.
