Business Sustainability Engagement Officer

Job Title: Business Sustainability Engagement Officer

Reports to: Green Economy North Program Director

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Sustainability Engagement Officer will work with reThink Green’s business sustainability program Green Economy North. They will support member organizations in moving through the milestone process to get engaged, measure their carbon footprint, set a reduction target, and achieve results. They will also help recruit new program participants.

DUTIES

Member support (40%)

  • Coordinate member meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide materials and support to onboard new members.
  • Assist with online group trainings on topics such as data collection, building a GHG inventory, Green Team development and environmental action planning.
  • One on one follow-ups to ensure members are progressing through the milestone process.
  • Assist members in communicating their successes to stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to members with program updates, opportunities, and other relevant information.

Data collection and action planning (20%)

  • Support data collection that will help members to measure and manage their GHG impact.
  • Assist program staff in creating GHG inventory reports
  • Assist members in creating action plans to reduce their emissions.
  • Research opportunities for environmental projects such as grants, incentives, and rebates.

Business Development (40%)

  • Create lead profiles for businesses and organizations who are potential participants in Green Economy North.
  • Identify keys drivers for environmental sustainability and environmental champions within each organization.
  • Develop customized messaging and materials to appeal to organizations or sectors identified as hot leads.
  • Input and manage contacts in a CRM database.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree / diploma in science communications, environmental planning, business sustainability or related field; or equivalent experience in a professional environment.
  • Solid understanding of the business community. Experience in and knowledge of Northern Ontario strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of climate science, greenhouse gas accounting, the low-carbon economy and local environmental issues strongly preferred. Energy Manager Certification is a strong asset.

Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of clients to meet or exceed their expectations. Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions.

Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile, and adapt to a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Ability to learn new technologies and master new skills.

ELIGIBILITY

Because of our funding, all applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Are new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field
  • Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship
  • Must be between the ages of 18-30 at the beginning of employment
  • Be legally entitled to work, in Canada
  • Reside in or be willing to relocate to Northern Ontario

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Marketing Officer will work with reThink Green’s Communications department to boost participation in our programs (Green Economy North, Smart Green Communities, Northern Home Energy Assessments, Travelwise) and events (Earth Festival, Commuter Challenge).

DUTIES

Digital Communications (25%)

  • Assist the development and implementation of a digital communications strategy.
  • Create and maintain a communications calendar that balances the needs of all programs and events.
  • Increase engagement, reach, and brand identity of all social media accounts and platforms.

Program Promotion (25%)

  • Identify and grow target audiences for all programs
  • Promote and host online information sessions to promote key programs (Green Economy North, Northern Home Energy Assessments, Travelwise).

Event Planning and Promotion (25%)

  • Support the delivery of our signature events including the Earth Festival, Regional Business Forum, and Sustainability Awards.
  • Logistics and contingency planning for hybrid events, ensuring that in-person and online audiences are engaged and informed.
  • Increase event support from corporate sponsors.

Content Creation (25%)

  • Assist the Communications team in developing promotional content (graphics, social media posts, advertising, pamphlets).
  • Catalogue and manage existing assets including videos, graphics, and media archives so they can be used effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in communications, science communication, journalism, graphic design, visual communications, marketing and/or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital brand development.
  • Excellent oral presentation skills.
  • Understanding of the various marketing platforms, including traditional media and social media.
  • Experience planning, promoting, and delivering community events.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues, sustainability, and the low-carbon economy is an asset.
  • Ability to work in French and English is a significant asset.

Energy Advisor in Training

Job Title: Energy Advisor in Training 

Start Date: November 22 2021 

TermContract ends September 30 2022, with possibility of continued employment 

Location: Sudbury, Ontario Salary: $35,000 – $40,000 annually 

Reports to: Executive Director

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

By bringing together the grassroots, non-profits, businesses and government, reThink Green creates community networks which promote creative collaboration and dialogue about local and global environmental issues and empower communities and organizations to meet their environmental and sustainability goals.

JOB SUMMARY

The successful applicant will complete training to become a Registered Energy Advisor (REA). This training will be paid for by reThink Green. Once training is complete, the REA’s primary role will be to conduct EnergGuide home energy assessments in the Greater Sudbury region. The REA will also promote the home energy assessment program and educate home owners. They will respond to enquiries and book appointments with homeowners seeking a home energy assessment. They will make recommendations about potential retrofit projects and connect home owners with service providers.

HIRING CRITERIA

This position is funded in part by the Green Jobs Internship Program. Youth 15-30 are eligible for this position. Priority may be given to qualified candidates who are the furthest from employment or underrepresented in the field including Indigenous Youth, youth with disabilities, and youth from rural communities and remote communities.

DUTIES

Energy Advisor Training (20%)
• Attend classroom training to become a Register Energy Advisor.
• Study for and take the Foundation Level Exam and the Energy Advisor (House) Exam.
• Complete the field training and mentorship under the direction of a qualified trainer.
• REA may be required to travel out of town for training. expenses will be covered.
• Failure to complete the training and pass exams in a timely manner may jeopardize continued employment.

Home Energy Assessments (50%)

• Book home energy assessments for clients 
• Complete EnerGuide Rating System residential energy efficiency evaluations as set forth in training and following all NRCan guidelines and policies.
• Complete energy modeling with HOT2000
• Develop upgrade recommendations for homeowners
• Submit home assessment and modeling to our service organization for quality assurance and file processing.
• Home assessment equipment will be provided by reThink Green.

Program Promotion (30%)
• Connect with the Communications Department to plan program promotion.
• Develop website content about home energy assessments
• Promote the home energy assessment program through various channels including social media, events, tabling, newsletters etc.
• Conduct information webinar sessions about home energy use, retrofits available incentives and project case studies.
• Respond to enquiries from home owners about home energy assessment and available incentives

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary degree in engineering, architecture, physical sciences or related fields
• Detailed knowledge of energy modeling as well as building construction and maintenance.
• Strong customer service, computer and communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal and social marketing skills
• Must be able to lift boxes of inventory, climb ladders and be in a general state of good physical fitness.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle large enough to carry auditing equipment (mileage will be reimbursed)
• Candidates should be willing to work some evening and Saturday appointments.
• Ability to work in French and English is a significant asset.
• Experience working in Indigenous communities is a significant asset.
• Knowledge of environmental issues, sustainability, and the low-carbon economy is an asset.
