Climate Innovation Manager

Join reThink Green as the Green Economy North Climate Innovation Manager. Green Economy North Green Economy North is a membership-based sustainable business program of reThink Green and the Northern Ontario hub of Green Economy Canada. The Climate Innovation Manager will help guide Green Economy North members through the proven milestone process to measure greenhouse gas emissions, set reduction targets, and make positive change.
JOB DUTIES
The Green Economy North Climate Innovation Manager will be responsible for:
- Developing lasting relationships with current and future Green Economy North members.
- Acting as a sustainability coach and principal resource person for Green Economy North members.
- Coordinating the collection of emissions data from members, assisting with energy efficiency walk-thoughts, and producing highly professional, technical reports that include findings and recommendations.
- Making connections with local service providers in the renewable and sustainable technology field.
- Assisting with the coordinator of local events and initiatives that help promote the program.
- Tracking participant data and reporting to the RTG CEO, as required.
- Visiting workplaces to present material, engage and train staff, and provide support on associated program software and systems.
- Assisting with the drafting and sharing of branded materials.
- Understanding local business needs and offering practical solutions.
- Other duties as requested and/or required for effective program delivery.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess a degree or diploma in environmental science, science communication, sustainable technology, business, resource management, or a relevant combination. They will have strong project management and leadership skills. Knowledge of climate science, greenhouse gas accounting, the low-carbon economy, and local environmental issues is mandatory. Solid understanding of the business community. Must be proficient with technology and common software systems.
Experience working in and knowledge of Northern Ontario strongly preferred. Ability to work in more than one language is an asset.

Environmental Communication Officer – NOHFC Internship

By connecting the grassroots, non-profits, businesses and government, reThink Green shares knowledge and sparks inspiration to both provide and stimulate impactful action across three focus areas –sustainable healthy communities, responsible environmental practices, and environmental leadership.
Greater Sudbury, along with many other communities in Ontario, is on a journey to net-zero emissions. ReThink Green hosts a suite of programs that are helping further this goal. It is critical that residents of Northern Ontario understand the science behind climate change, and other important environmental issues.
The Environmental Communication Officer will work to translate climate science into easily understood communication pieces. They will create opportunities for residents to participate in climate action and help further the connection between reThink Green programs and important documents like the City’s official Community Energy and Emissions Plan. The ability to work between science, communication, and community is a unique (and in demand) skill set that can be applied to several careers in the environmental sector.
Duties
The Environmental Communications Officer will:
- Work across all current reThink Green programs to build out common communication themes around environmental science, specifically climate change adaptation and mitigation.
- Create and post science-based content on all reThink Green social media platforms, assist with tracking metrics, and support timely media campaigns around bigger national and global environmental events.
- Support reThink Green’s connections to local community groups, as well as reThink Green’s involvement in advisory groups related to official municipal environmental plans.
- Oversee the production of the RTG annual report, including any science-based program data and results.
- Work closely with RTG program coordinators with the development and delivery of environmental outreach and awareness campaigns.
- Assist with writing and hosting the weekly reThink Green radio show, hosted on local CKLU radio.
- Other duties as requested or required.
Eligibility
- Degree or diploma in Science Communication, Environmental Communication, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or an equivalent field of study.
- The candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, transitioning to a new career, unemployed, or underemployed who are entering a new field.
- Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.
- Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
- Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Greater Sudbury, along with many other communities in Ontario, is on a journey to net-zero. ReThink Green hosts a suite of programs that directly address this goal, including Green Economy North and the Northern Home Energy Audit program. Through these programs, reThink Green is helping both residents and business owners understand their carbon footprint, and then implement the plans, tools, and projects needed to reduce overall emissions.
The Green Economy Technical Officer will directly support both projects. Ideally, the Officer will undergo additional training and exams (sponsored by reThink Green) to become a registered Energy Auditor. This will further address the need for qualified technical professionals in northern Ontario.
Duties
The Green Economy Technical Officer will:
- Work with the Green Economy North team to identify short, medium, and long-term opportunities to increase climate action for members, including a range of mitigation, adaptation, and technology-based solutions.
- Assist with commercial energy walkthroughs of member facilities, including the collection of greenhouse gas emissions data and the identification of energy-efficiency measures.
- Assist with residential energy audits, including collection of data and project suggestions.
- Develop a resource bank of local tools, suppliers, and contractors that support the green economy.
- Help oversee sustainability project planning for members and help guide projects that will qualify for Green Economy North’s new micro-grant funding program.
- Perform greenhouse gas emissions calculations using provided methods and software, and work with reThink Green communications staff to translate that data into member reports.
- Work closely with the Green Economy North and Northern Energy Home Audit teams on program development, specifically around technical aspects.
Note: There is opportunity for the Green Economy Technical Officer to undergo additional training and examinations (sponsored by reThink Green) to become an Energy Auditor.
Eligibility
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Technology, Renewable Energy Technology, Environmental Management, Green Architecture, Environmental Building Science, or equivalent field of study.
- Must be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.

Sudbury Program. The Smart Commute program helps and supports residents, employers, and their
employees getting from A to B by exploring and encouraging transportation options such as walking,
cycling, transit, carpooling and teleworking (work from home). The aim is to reduce traffic impacts while
helping commuters save time and money. Smart Commute includes several services and programs such
as marketing, carpooling support, workplace led training, engagement events, and customized
commuter projects.
Job Duties:

JOB SUMMARY
Are you passionate about helping individuals save money and fight climate change? ReThink Green is looking for a Registered Energy Advisor. RTG is currently the only service organization offering the NRCan Greener Home Initiative in this region.
The designation of Energy Advisor (EA) registered with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) means that a person has met and maintained all the required qualifications to deliver EnerGuide rating services for eligible homes in Canada.
The EA will be responsible for:
- EnerGuide Rating System residential energy efficiency evaluations as set forth in training and following all NRCan guidelines and policies;
- Energy modeling with HOT2000;
- Developing upgrade recommendations for homeowners; and
- Submitting home assessment and modeling to our service organization for quality assurance and file processing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
To become an EA, the candidate must pass two qualification exams, the Foundation Level Exam and the Energy Advisor (House) Exam and be affiliated with an NRCan-licensed service organization (SO) to finalize their registration with NRCan. You can search for a service organization in your area here.

JOB SUMMARY
The Business Sustainability Engagement Officer will work with reThink Green’s business sustainability program Green Economy North. They will support member organizations in moving through the milestone process to get engaged, measure their carbon footprint, set a reduction target, and achieve results. They will also help recruit new program participants.
DUTIES
Member support (40%)
- Coordinate member meetings and training sessions.
- Provide materials and support to onboard new members.
- Assist with online group trainings on topics such as data collection, building a GHG inventory, Green Team development and environmental action planning.
- One on one follow-ups to ensure members are progressing through the milestone process.
- Assist members in communicating their successes to stakeholders internally and externally.
- Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to members with program updates, opportunities, and other relevant information.
Data collection and action planning (20%)
- Support data collection that will help members to measure and manage their GHG impact.
- Assist program staff in creating GHG inventory reports
- Assist members in creating action plans to reduce their emissions.
- Research opportunities for environmental projects such as grants, incentives, and rebates.
Business Development (40%)
- Create lead profiles for businesses and organizations who are potential participants in Green Economy North.
- Identify keys drivers for environmental sustainability and environmental champions within each organization.
- Develop customized messaging and materials to appeal to organizations or sectors identified as hot leads.
- Input and manage contacts in a CRM database.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree / diploma in science communications, environmental planning, business sustainability or related field; or equivalent experience in a professional environment.
- Solid understanding of the business community. Experience in and knowledge of Northern Ontario strongly preferred
- Knowledge of climate science, greenhouse gas accounting, the low-carbon economy and local environmental issues strongly preferred. Energy Manager Certification is a strong asset.

DUTIES
Digital Communications (25%)
- Assist the development and implementation of a digital communications strategy.
- Create and maintain a communications calendar that balances the needs of all programs and events.
- Increase engagement, reach, and brand identity of all social media accounts and platforms.
Program Promotion (25%)
- Identify and grow target audiences for all programs
- Promote and host online information sessions to promote key programs (Green Economy North, Northern Home Energy Assessments, Travelwise).
Event Planning and Promotion (25%)
- Support the delivery of our signature events including the Earth Festival, Regional Business Forum, and Sustainability Awards.
- Logistics and contingency planning for hybrid events, ensuring that in-person and online audiences are engaged and informed.
- Increase event support from corporate sponsors.
Content Creation (25%)
- Assist the Communications team in developing promotional content (graphics, social media posts, advertising, pamphlets).
- Catalogue and manage existing assets including videos, graphics, and media archives so they can be used effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in communications, science communication, journalism, graphic design, visual communications, marketing and/or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in digital brand development.
- Excellent oral presentation skills.
- Understanding of the various marketing platforms, including traditional media and social media.
- Experience planning, promoting, and delivering community events.
- Knowledge of environmental issues, sustainability, and the low-carbon economy is an asset.
- Ability to work in French and English is a significant asset.
