reThink Green/Ribfest Pilot Partnership
reThink Green recently partnered with Downtown Sudbury to run a pilot project on the 2019 Rib Fest. Our role was to help make the annual downtown event more environmentally sustainable.
The pilot project had three aspects. First reThink Green managed a waste sorting station within Ribfest. Customers were encouraged to bring their trash to the station, where volunteers separated organics, recycling, and garbage and placed into appropriate receptacles. Secondly, a reusable souvenir cup was created and available for purchase. The cup, sold for $2, reduced the number of disposable drink cups used throughout the weekend. Finally, the amount of carbon that the festival used was translated in to a baseline that the Green Economy North team will reference year to year as festival processes and procedures are developed.
